Nancy Winger Obituary

Nancy Lee Winger passed away on May 20, 2023 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2023 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Bemidji, MN. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2023 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Nancy was born in Minneapolis on July 15, 1956 to Arvin and Leona Dorman. She grew up in the small town of Carlos just north of Alexandria. She attended Carlos Elementary School and graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria. After graduation, Nancy was employed briefly in Minneapolis, then in Alexandria for Douglas County Social Services and Douglas County Court.

Nancy married Keith Winger at Jackson Hole, WY on July 21, 1987. They lived near Alexandria for the next three years during which time she attended college at Morris for one year and then at St. Cloud for one year. In 1993 they moved to Warroad where Nancy worked in the Tours and Training Department of Marvin Windows and for the Warroad School District. While in Warroad, Nancy enrolled in the external studies program at Bemidji State University. She graduated with her degree in 1993.

In January 1993 Nancy was hired as a trainer for the Ninth Judicial District of Minnesota. She was later promoted to Deputy Administrator for the district. During her tenure, Nancy served as interim court administrator for each of the seventeen counties of the district. In 2017 Nancy received an award for “Coach/Mentor of the Year” for the State of Minnesota.

After more than twenty years of working with the court system, she retired to enjoy life with family and friends. She loved spending time at West Alaska and pontooning on Balm Lake. She especially enjoyed visiting with her high school friends “The Carlos Girls”.

Nancy liked playing Mah-Jongg with her friends and in recent months when sick she would play the game by telephone. She rarely missed the show Jeopardy.

Nancy had a solid Christian faith and her last visit at home with the priest brought her great joy.

She is survived by her husband, Keith; son, Aaron (Tessa); grandchildren, Greyson, Alec and Misty; sisters-in-law, Sheila and Sonya and many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Arvin and Leona Dorman; parents-in-law, Kenneth and Inez Winger; sister, Betty and brother, Jim.
