Loreen Case Obituary

We are sad to announce that God has called home Loreen (Lori) Alice Case on December 16, 2022 in Bemidji MN at Sanford Medical Center after a hard-fought battle with an illness.

A graveside memorial will take place at the Guthrie Cemetery in Guthrie MN 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 14th, 2023. All family and friends are welcome to join.

Loreen was a devout Christian, dedicated wife, caring Mother, and a loving Grandma/Great Grandma. Loreen was born January 25th, 1949 to Barney and Marjorie Nettleton in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. Loreen married Ronald Case on October 18, 1969 in Pickford Michigan. Loreen went with Ron to Texas and Germany while he was in the Army. After they settled in Becker, MN Loreen began a 42-year career as a nurse at the St. Cloud Hospital while raising her two sons. The family enjoyed many trips “up North” to the cabin in all seasons for fishing (she always managed to catch the biggest one), going for walks and having bonfires with family and friends.

Upon retirement Loreen moved to Bemidji, MN with her loving husband Ron by her side. She became involved in the community through many hours of volunteer work with the food shelf, Lake Bemidji State Park, attending Bemidji Evangelical Free Church and working at the Bemidji Event Center for “Yoga money” as she called it. Loreen enjoyed traveling to many Minnesota State Parks with some bigger trips to Yellowstone National Park, a trip to see the giant Redwood trees on the west coast, and a tour of Alaska. Lori enjoyed the simple things too, such as quiet time on the screen porch with a book, putting a puzzle together, perfecting her oatmeal butterscotch cookies, a simple walk down to the river, and certainly enjoyed her walleye for breakfast! Loreen knew the value of family time and hosted many dinners with family and friends, planned trips to Lake Vermillion, Devils Lake or even a walk in Bemidji State Park and many shopping trips with her Grandchildren, to name a few. The long journeys to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to see family were of utmost importance to her and she made sure they happened! She always made an effort to connect with and include family members.

You cannot talk about Lori without mentioning what a kind and gentle spirit she had or how she would find the good in someone or a seemingly bad situation. She did not brag or judge or talk badly about anybody. She was always there for her family.

Her Loving smile will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her!

Loreen was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Russel “Rusty” Nettleton and is survived by and forever missed by her siblings Rodney Nettleton (Chris), Stanley Nettleton (Joan), Jane Duschen, Joyce Hernandez (Cesar), Sam Nettleton (Jan), husband Ronald, her sons Brett and Charles, her Grandchildren Cody (Adair), Brittney, Sadie, and her three great-grandchildren Evlynn, Charlie and Winter.
