Sally Ann (Osheim) Ellingson

Sally Ellingson, 88, of Bemidji, MN passed away after a courageous battle with a cancerous brain tumor.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2024 at New Salem Lutheran Church, Turtle River, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Turtle River.

Sally Ann Osheim was born June 9, 1935, in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Sidney and Sally (Espe) Osheim. They lived in Hillsboro where her parents owned and operated Sid Osheim Hardware. Sally attended schools in Hillsboro, Crookston, MN, Chehalis, WA, Bethany Lutheran in Mankato, MN. She was a graduate of Robbinsdale High School and Northwest Institute of Medical Technology. She worked at the hospital in Thief River Falls. In 1954, Sally and James C. Ellingson were married. They made their home in Bemidji together for 61 years that sadly ended with Jim’s death in 2015. They have four children, James David (Kim) twins, Dean (Peggy), Dale (Paula) and daughter Diane (Jim) Hoffman. Sally was employed by Bemidji Clinic. In 1961 she started Sally’s Yarn Shop which was best known for knitting the original Bemidji Hockey Hat. In later years she shared time with her sons at 3D repair. She was a long-time member of Salem Lutheran Church of Turtle River and instrumental in making the move to New Salem Church. Sally was an avid quilter and loved baking sweets to share.

She is survived by her four children and grandchildren, Jamie (Matt) Glen, Jake Hoffman, Megan Ellingson, Ben (Diane) Murray; great-grandsons, Tolman Murray and Kolter Braunhausen and nephew, Curtis (Sarah) Forsland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; sister, Susan Kverno and niece, Cindy Preuett.
