Roland "Ron" Dale Patterson

Roland “Ron” Patterson, 89, of Bemidji, MN died Monday, November 13, 2017 at Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.

Roland Patterson was born October 11, 1928 in Grand Forks, ND to Abe “Pat” and Annette (Cooper) Patterson. He grew up in Bemidji and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1946. Ron went on to attend the University of Minnesota where he attained a degree in business. While there, he met the love of his life, Ralyhe Rutchick. They married on June 24, 1950 in Minneapolis and had recently celebrated 67 years together. In 1951, Ron entered the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, they returned to Bemidji and joined Ron’s parents, Abe & Annette at Patterson’s Clothing. Over the years the family business also consisted of Lake Country Clothing and Patterson’s at the Paul Bunyan Mall. Over the years Ron was very active in the Bemidji community participating in the Shriners, Masons, American Legion, Lions, Jaycees, Elks and Charlie’s Coffee Klatch. Ron served on the Board of Directors of Northern National Bank for many years. Ron enjoyed golf, tennis, curling, trap shooting and was an avid reader. Ron and Ralyhe were long time members of Temple Israel in Minneapolis. After their retirement they spent the winters in Scottsdale, AZ. His most cherished times were spent with his loving family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Ralyhe Patterson; son, Steve (Sally) Patterson and daughter, Jan (Peter) Guggenheimer all of Bemidji; grandchildren, Abby (Mat) Barlow of Boulder, CO, Molly (Jeff) Miller of New Brighton, MN and Ethan (Erinn) Guggenheimer of Minnetonka, MN; and great-grandchildren, Jack, Caleb and Emma. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
