Eugene Clayton Leeper

Eugene Leeper Jr., 71, of Bemidji, MN died Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Genelle Netland officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Eugene Clayton Leeper Jr. was born July 18, 1945 in Bemidji, MN to Eugene and Lorraine (Platt) Leeper Sr. Eugene graduated from Bemidji High School in 1963 and graduated as Certified Mechanic from Wadena Tech in 1965. He married his high school sweetheart Beverly Anne Kruger on September 11, 1965. Eugene worked at Burns Auto, Hawley, MN from 1965-1966. Eugene served in the US Army’s 101st Airborne from 1966-1968. He worked at Universal Ford Garage, Rochester, MN from 1968-1981. In 1971 he became a daddy to a little girl, his “little peanut” (Twilla) and again in 1972 to a little boy (Buck). They moved to Bemidji where he was a mechanic for the Bemidji School District (ISD #31) from 1981-2005.  He took great pride of his work as a mechanic for the school district’s bus garage and took his position very seriously to be sure all children arrived to and from school safely. Eugene was a long time Moose Member and Legion Member.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling (with celebratory back flips for all strikes), shooting the breeze with friends, and spending time with his family.  He always looked forward to the annual reunion with the 101st Airborne and was very close to the vast majority.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Leeper; children, Twilla (Brian) Pesola of Loveland, CO and Buck (Stacie) Leeper of Bemidji; grandchildren, Kade Leeper and Brie Leeper; brother, Larry (Judy) Leeper of Turtle River and sister, Sharon Polman of Cass Lake.

He was preceded in death by his mother Lorraine (Platt) Leeper, stepfather John Sounder, father Eugene Clayton Leeper Sr., and his grandparents.
