Elmer Winch, 91, of Bemidji, MN died Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Becida Community Church with Pastor Keith Willard officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Fern Township Cemetery, Becida, MN. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Elmer Lee Winch was born January 12, 1926 in Madelia, MN to John and Erma Winch. Elmer lived on a farm about 3 miles north of Truman where he went to the 10th grade at Truman High School. He moved to Bemidji to stay with his brother to work various jobs. He met and married Velda Mohler in 1949. They lived in Bemidji until the day he passed. Elmer worked in Fort Peck, MT for a summer and then came back to Bemidji and started to work for Bucklan Plumbing for 5 years. Then he went to work for Beltrami County Garage for 32 years until he retired in 1988. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He always had plenty of veggies for family and friends. He loved music, dancing, playing cards, darts and horseshoes. Elmer was a member of Bemidji Moose Club for over 50 years. He was a governor of the Moose for one year in that time of membership. He was always the first to volunteer to help with any of the activities.
He is survived by his wife, Velda Winch of Bemidji; children, Valerie (Donald Gotaas) Gothberg of Bemidji, Tom (Theresa) Winch of Bemidji and Donna Hiltz of Bemidji and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Winch; brothers, Earl, Herb, Merlin and Walter and sisters, Mable, Wilma and Dorothy.
