Clinton M. Braaten Sr. passed away peacefully at 88 years, Friday, January 12, 2018 with family at his side at Neilson Place, Bemidji, MN.

Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home with Rev. Andrew Ronnevik officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the spring in the Southarm Cemetery, Bemidji, MN.

Clint was born July 14, 1929 in Wolford, ND to Mabel (Aamodt) and Clarence Braaten. Clint was educated in ND and Bemidji, MN, where he and his family moved when Clint was a youth. At a young age, he worked summers on a farm in Leeds, ND. Clint as a young adult, enlisted in the U.S. Army in Minot, ND. Clint worked on the railroad or 30 years, Great Northern, Burlington Northern which became BNSF. He worked as a brakeman and conductor, retiring in 1982. October 11, 1949 Clint married Delores Berglund. Clint was a member of the American Legion in Bemidji, Fargo Amvets, ND. He was also co-founder of the Bemidji Eagles Club and the Truth or Consequences, NM Eagles. Clint earned the highest degree for Moose Heart, the Pilgrim Degree. He also with his wife, Delores, served as MN State Fire Wardens for several years. He also served on the Turtle River Township Board. Clint was active with the Sons of Norway in Bemidji. Clint and Delores wintered in Truth or Consequences, NM for 22 years. They had many special times at their lake home, pontooning and fishing and hosting family gatherings. They also enjoyed RV camping with family and friends. Clint enjoyed the times with the guys hunting.

Clinton is survived by sons, Clinton “Sonny” Jr. (Karen) Braaten, Donald (Debbie) Braaten and James (Mary) Braaten; son-in-law, Jack Haugen; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty (Orville) Berg and Myrna (Duane) Bohlman and sister-in-law, Joyce Braaten.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delores; daughter, Sharon; parents, Clarence and Mabel; brothers, Sherman and Lowell and infant sister, Mary Jane.
